The Play’s the Thing Part II: The Idea’s in Here with Gareth Morgan
April 29 @ 1:30 pm - 5:30 pm
This is Part II of the series. It is suitable for intermediate level writers and can be booked independently. Details on Part I: Writing for Performance can be found here.
The Idea’s in Here – from brain to page to stage
Here participants should come with a play idea of their own in mind. Through practical creative exercises and group discussion, you will unravel the basis of a structure for what this play could be and discover how it can help you as a playwright. Finally, we’ll use this structure to unlock the characters and relationships within the idea, looking how and where this structure supports specific actions in your proposed plot. You’ll have the chance to map a structure for this idea and gain valuable feedback from the whole group.
Both sessions will end with a practical advice/Q&A session and a few pitfalls and heffalump traps to avoid.
Gareth is an Associate Artist at Nottingham Playhouse working on script and literary projects and a freelance dramaturg and writer. As a playwright, he has written for Nottingham Playhouse and Nottingham Forest FC, the SEAS International Festival, the Bike Shed Theatre and Exeter Northcott. He also runs Act 2, an East Midlands new theatre writing project, based at Nottingham Playhouse, and was nominated for the national dramaturgy award, The Kenneth Tynan, in 2016.
